Why have eye surgery?
Correct a significant vision problem
Severe vision problems or eye diseases can be very disabling in everyday life. They can even cause anxiety and stress, which we would all rather avoid! Ophthalmic surgery therefore appears as an optimal solution for anyone who is tired of wearing glasses.
Feel better about yourself
We know that wearing glasses is not everyone’s cup of tea… You need to find THE perfect pair to feel comfortable with them and face other people’s opinions (although if someone calls you a “four-eyes”, take it as a compliment ?).
If eye surgery is not an option you are considering for now, contact lenses are also an interesting alternative.
Free yourself from daily constraints
Adapting your makeup to your frame, not being able to practice certain sports, or even being refused access to some professions such as the army or firefighting. Yes, wearing glasses is not always fun.
Having eye surgery can therefore be a good way to free yourself from certain constraints and live your life the way you want!
The different types of eye surgery
There are two main types of eye surgery:
- Procedures performed using a laser that directly reshapes the cornea (extraocular surgery);
- Procedures performed inside the eyeball at the level of the lens, involving the placement of an implant.

Eye surgery can treat different vision problems. It is important to consult a specialist who can determine the type of eye surgery that is best suited to you.
Cataract surgery
Cataracts are a very common condition, affecting around 1 in 2 French people over the age of 50. It is caused by the clouding of the lens over time. The procedure consists of replacing the lens with a custom-made implant adapted to your eye! It is the most common operation in the world, with around 600,000 people undergoing it every year!
Glaucoma surgery
Glaucoma is an eye disease caused by excessive pressure inside the eye, which can eventually damage the optic nerve and affect vision. Although medication can help, surgery may also be considered in some cases: it aims to improve the drainage of eye fluid.
Refractive surgery
This procedure is intended for anyone who wants to get rid of glasses or contact lenses! This type of eye surgery aims to correct vision problems such as myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. It is similar to cosmetic surgery for the eye, as it involves reshaping the cornea: flattening it, making it more curved or regularizing its shape to correct the vision problem using a laser.
Reconstructive surgery
Advances in medicine now allow doctors to repair damaged or torn eyes, for example after an accident. Reconstructive surgeries can also be used to repair eye muscles and restore proper movement. And of course, you want to avoid getting to that point, so don’t forget to protect your eyes!
