What are the symptoms of an ocular migraine?
Blurred vision, headaches or even glare, all of these can be signs of the symptoms of an ocular migraine. First of all, let me say good luck if you are experiencing this! Then, I’ll give you some little tips to make sure it really is an ocular migraine and, most importantly, what you can do to make it go away.
What are the symptoms of an ocular migraine?
Be careful, a migraine is not necessarily ocular. It only concerns 20% of migraine cases. It can be persistent and last for several days. The biggest difference between the two types of migraines is the order in which the symptoms appear.
Visual disturbances are often the first symptoms of an ocular migraine. Pain can then appear afterwards.
Visual disturbances:
- A major blurred vision
- Glare and sparkling spots with a feeling of dizziness
- A distorted perception of objects
Painful symptoms:
- Headaches that can become worse with the slightest effort
- A strong sensitivity to light, even when it is not very intense
- Sometimes nausea and vomiting
- Rarely, tingling sensations in the fingers
In general, all these symptoms appear on only one side of the head before spreading and becoming almost unbearable!

So concretely, what can you do to relieve these symptoms?
How to relieve ocular migraines?
It is called an ocular migraine because it is often located just behind the eyes. First of all, you can go into a quiet room, and especially somewhere dark. This will allow your eyes and your brain to rest. Once you are comfortably settled, you can massage your temples using small circular movements.

If the symptoms of the ocular migraine persist, you can try taking paracetamol (be careful to consult your doctor before self-medicating).
What triggers the symptoms of an ocular migraine?
Wait, I haven’t even told you where ocular migraines can come from! They are often caused by stress and anxiety, or even by being extremely tired (once again, sleep is everything!).
Attention ladies, you might not like this one, but your periods can also trigger these famous migraines. As if dealing with them every month wasn’t enough already!
They can also appear because of certain foods such as chocolate, coffee or even processed meats. Also, be careful with smoking!
