What is presbyopia?

The lens, your natural lens located behind the pupil, allows your eyes to focus on the objects you see. It adjusts to switch from near vision to distance vision. A bit like a camera! But over time, the lens loses its elasticity and your near vision can become blurry. This is what we call presbyopia.

What are progressive lenses?

Difference between single vision and progressive lenses

At any age, you can experience a vision problem and wear glasses to correct it. But do you know how the lenses in your glasses actually work?

If you have only one vision problem, single vision lenses may be prescribed. This means they have the same power across their entire surface. They are therefore used for simple vision problems: myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia.

However, it is also possible to have two vision problems at the same time. It is not uncommon to have a vision problem when you are young and then develop presbyopia later in life.

You will then be offered progressive lenses. Their special feature? They have different powers within the same lens to correct distance, intermediate and near vision problems.

For certain professional activities where near vision is just as important as distance vision (e.g. teachers, bus drivers, etc.), you can also request progressive lenses.
