The first thing to know is that in the mountains, light intensity is much stronger and glare from the snow is significantly increased. After all, you're closer to the sun and sometimes even above the clouds (for a moment, you can almost feel like you're on top of the world!).

That's why choosing the right lenses is essential to protect your eyes and enjoy maximum comfort while skiing or snowboarding.

Lens Protection Category

As a reminder, all sunglasses sold in Europe must comply with the CE UV400 standard, providing 100% protection against UVA and UVB rays. However, you should also pay attention to the lens protection category, which is divided into 6 different levels.

This rating indicates how much visible sunlight the lens filters, helping reduce glare. So, which category is best for skiing?

Category 3

Let's start with Category 3, as it's the minimum recommended level for mountain activities. Why? Because at higher altitudes, sunlight and snow reflection are much more intense.

Category 4

Category 4 sunglasses are the most recommended for skiing because they reduce glare by around 90%, allowing only about 10% of visible light to pass through.

Please note that Category 4 lenses are intended specifically for high-brightness environments such as winter sports. They must not be worn while driving, as they significantly reduce visibility and alter color perception.

Lens Color

Once you've chosen the right protection category, selecting the right lens color is just as important. Lens tint affects your contrast perception, brightness, and your ability to distinguish terrain details.

In general, the darker the lens tint, the more effectively it reduces glare. Different colors aren't just about style—they're designed to perform better in different weather conditions:

• Orange, yellow, and pink lenses are ideal in low-light conditions such as fog, snowfall, or overcast weather. They enhance contrast and make terrain easier to read.
• Brown lenses work particularly well on cloudy days, softening contrasts while providing a warm, comfortable view (they even make it feel like the sun is always shining ☀).
• Grey lenses provide the most natural color perception while effectively reducing glare, making them perfect for bright, sunny days.

Fresh white snow under bright sunshine looks amazing—but it can also be extremely harsh on your eyes. That's why we recommend choosing polarized lenses, which significantly reduce glare caused by sunlight reflecting off the snow.

If style is your priority, acetate sunglasses are an excellent choice and will perfectly complement your favorite ski outfit.

We don't recommend metal frames for skiing, as they can easily bend or cause injury in the event of a fall.

• Don't pull your neck warmer over your nose, as it directs warm breath toward your lenses and causes condensation.
